Træna Heritage Walk: From Peaks to History

Join us for an enriching journey through the heart of Husøya, where the deep-rooted history of the islanders meets the dramatic landscape of the Helgeland coast. This guided tour offers a unique glimpse into the soul of Norway's oldest fishing community.

The Water Tower & Panoramic Views
Our first ascent takes us to the Water Tower (Vanntårnet). From this vantage point, you are rewarded with a spectacular 360-degree view. To the west, the iconic silhouette of Trænstaven and the Kirkhelleren cave on Sanna rise from the ocean. To the east, the mainland peaks of "The Seven Sisters" and the Svartisen glacier shimmer in the distance. Your guide will share the fascinating stories behind this vast archipelago and its unique geography.
The Petter Dass Chapel
On our way down from the tower, we visit the Petter Dass Chapel (1997). This non-consecrated memorial honors those lost at sea and commemorates the great Baroque poet and priest Petter Dass (1647–1707). Inside, you can admire the evocative paintings by the renowned Norwegian artist Karl Erik Harr. Today, the chapel serves as a serene venue for ceremonies and intimate concerts.
The Church & The Museum
The tour concludes at the historical heart of the village. We visit the Træna Church, built in 1773 on ancient foundations, housing an original altarpiece and pulpit that have survived through centuries. Finally, we move to the Træna Museum, located in a traditional "Nordlandshus." Here, the guided tour ends among exhibitions that show how generations of islanders have lived, worked, and thrived on the edge of the ocean.

During the walk we also stop at interesting places, and guests can ask the local guide how it is to live on a remote island all year around.
