Stekvasselv Gård – Staying on a mountain farm
Rooms | A holiday stay on a farm in the mountains brings you close to great hiking and other wilderness adventures. Climb the mountain peaks, fish the lakes or go hunting. If you are doing a long trek on the Nordlandsruta trail, Stekvasselv is a fine place for a restful overnight stay.
Stekvasselv Farm is beautifully situated by Røssvatnet lake in the mountains of Hemnes. Whatever season you choose to visit, and whether you come with family or friends, it is wonderful to explore this magnificent area. In the summer, you can hike marked trails throughout the Okstindan mountains, and even go on a glacier trek. During the winter, the varied snow-covered terrain is perfect for cross-country skiing, challenging the summits and for back-country skiing.
During late summer and autumn you can pick berries and wild mushrooms. Be sure to bring a berry bucket, basket and knife for your foraging ventures. You may also need a good mushroom book and a sharp eye to search, and you may suddenly find yourself standing in a forest blanketed with golden chanterelles.
The entire area is magnificent, with varied terrain – gentle valleys, high mountains, glaciers, and lakes that offer excellent fishing. Intrepid hikers following the long trail called Nordlandsruta will welcome an overnight stay at Stekvasselv Farm. If you give notice, the hosts will serve up hearty meals, arrange for replenishment of your provisions, and can even transport you to or from the trail (2 km).
You can book a single room or rent an entire house for your holiday stay. The newest house, “Kårstua”, has four bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, refrigerator, laundry room, two bathrooms and a sauna. The older house, “Gammelstua”, has four bedrooms with a total of nine beds on its second floor. This charming old house also has a newly renovated kitchen, bathroom and laundry room. Both houses are fully equipped, and bedding, linen and towels are provided. Cleaning is included in your rent. Either holiday house offers plenty of space for your family or group of friends, and a great base for exploring the surrounding wilderness.
Accommodation at Stekvasselv is mostly based on self-catering, but you can order meals in advance. Boat and canoe rental are available, giving you the opportunity to fish your own dinner. In the winter you can go ice fishing.
By the way, did you know that Røssvatnet is the second largest lake in Norway?
